2 years of B Corp Certification!
We are proud to be celebrating two years of B Corp Certification! It took us almost two years to achieve the certification, so it feels extra special to be celebrating this milestone.
What is a B Corp?
B Corps are a global community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact. B Corps span all industries from food and beverages to architecture and entertainment. Some of your favourite brands may even be B Corps: Ben & Jerrys, The Guardian, Innocent Drinks, Patagonia, Aesop and The Body Shop to name a few.
By certifying, we are stepping into a framework for continuous improvement. In order to maintain certification, companies must undertake the assessment and verification process every three years, demonstrating they are still meeting the evolving B Corp standards.
Why did we choose B Corp Certification?
We have always done business differently and wanted a way to easily communicate this to our customers. B Corp has been a growing certification over the last 10 years with over 2,500 B Corps now in the UK, making us the biggest B Corp community in the world.
We are in great company, with a growing number of local B Corps in the Lincoln/Newark area including Reuseabox, Social Change, Ruddocks and Stokes Tea & Coffee.
What makes Gusto Homes different to your typical developer?
Sustainability and community have always been at the core of our business. Back in the late 90s, our first development Millennium Green was influenced by the Rio Earth Summit. Our founder Steff Wright had studied the cutting-edge technologies you could integrate into new residential properties and saw the massive gap between the status quo and what could be delivered. This resulted in a cutting-edge development built to three times building regulations at the time and incorporated rainwater harvesting, solar water heating systems and high-performance insulation.
Our first development taught us a big lesson: homes can be built better. More comfortable, more efficient and better for the people who live in them. We’ve been building a better future for our homeowners ever since!
By joining the B Corp community, we can clearly communicate what we stand for - that sustainability and community are central to how we run our business and design our developments.
As a homeowner, how will I benefit from living in a Gusto Home?
Sustainability and community are interconnected for us; we believe that when designing and building a development, you need to consider how the community are going to live and interact with each other. We ensure that the design of our developments encourages connection between homeowners. A great example of this is on our Woodlands Edge development in Lincoln: each home has their own allotment where they can grow and often share food when people have a surplus – as the allotments are situated near each other, relationships develop naturally between homeowners.
One homeowner living on our Woodlands Edge development said: “I’ve had no remarkable snags to report in my time here, and my overwhelming sense of the place is one of peaceful, easy and homely solidness.
Bricks and mortar aside, there’s also a huge sense of community on the development at Woodlands Edge, as we all share in common our appreciation for the sustainability and eco-friendly design principles that shape the place.
In short, I feel exceptionally lucky to live here, and know that wherever I move to next will have it all to do to measure up in a comparison.”
Our latest development, Easthorpe Green, compromises of high quality, clean-energy 2, 3, 4 & 5-bedroom homes located in the well-connected village of Easthorpe, Bottesford. Take a look at the development in more detail here: www.easthorpegreen.co.uk
